Our Hanoi hotel helped arrange our tour to Ha Long Bay, and we were very pleased with Oriental Sails. An absolutely amazing trip, it is a must for everyone that visits Hanoi.
We were picked up from our hotel at 8.00am and we arrived at Ha Long Bay harbour at 12.30pm. We were transferred from the harbour via a smaller boat to the stunning Calypso Cruiser. We spent one night on the Calypso Cruiser in late April 2011. We stayed on the second deck, the views from our room were amazing, no matter where you were in Ha Long Bay. The rooms were comfortable and clean with nice decor.
On our first day we were served lunch upon boarding the junk, we then relaxed and enjoyed the views of the floating villages and limestone islands. Once we arrived in Ha Long Bay we went to discover the amazing caves; the caves are definitely worth seeing. In the evening we were treated to a complimentary cooking lesson and after dinner there was karaoke and dancing on offer for those that were game or night squid fishing for the more tame.
On the second day after breakfast we got up-close-and-personal with the incredible scenery via kayaks, we visited Luon Cave. For those that did not fancy kayaking, they had the option to go to Titop Island to enjoy the views of Ha Long Bay, relax and swim. We then returned to our junk, checked out of rooms and enjoyed the scenery and lunch before departing the junk.
We were transferred back to our hotel; we arrived back at 5.00pm.
The crew on Calypso Cruiser were friendly and good fun, and nothing was too much trouble. The food was superb, great quality and there was so much of it, including seafood. Drinks were an extra cost, although very reasonably priced.
Our tour manager from Oriental Sails, Vuong Ngo, was very professional and friendly. Vuong had exceptional knowledge of Ha Long Bay and was very informative.
I would recommend Oriental Sails, and I would also recommend staying the two nights on the junk, as one night was not long enough.
